The Honeywell Pure HEPA QuietCare Air Purifier is recommended for filtering the air in a room up to 168 square feet. In a room this size it can circulate the air up to six times an hour. To clean the air sufficiently this unit uses two filters.
The Honeywell Pure HEPA Air Purifier uses a carbon pre-filter. This filter protects the HEPA filter. It is able to absorb the volatile molecules which are the sources of odors.
HEPA filters are a type of filter that is able to remove 99.97 percent of airborne particles that are greater than 0.3 micrometers in size. It can remove particles smaller than 0.3 micrometers are well. A Pure HEPA filter is the only filter equipped to do this. Those defined as HEPA-type or HEPA-like fall short.
Monitoring the filters have never been easier. Honeywell’s IntelliCheck system allows you to know exactly how clean or dirty your filters are. Each filter has a button. When you press the button it will activate a light. This light will either blink or shine steadily. If it blinks once, the filter still has lots of life remaining. If it blinks twice, the filter is closer to needing to be removed. Three blinks and the filter is almost at the end of its life. When the light remains steady it means that the filter needs changing.
There is no guesswork as to when you need to change your filter. The HEPA filter will last up to three years, while the pre-filter needs to be changed more often—every three months. The filters are simple to change.
The air cleaners has three speeds. For the amount of air this unit circulates, each speed works fairly quietly. Working on the lowest level, the unit operates in silence. Although on the medium and high levels, the unit emits more noise, it simply means that it is working. It’s job is to circulate large amounts of air and it’s almost impossible to do this in complete silence. The noise it does emit is not annoying and is certainly not louder than your dishwasher.

“As someone who is highly allergic to cigarette smoke and other air pollutants and irritants, I purchased a round Honeywell HEPA air filter when it first came on the market several years ago. It still works well in the living room. This year I purchased another Honeywell air cleaner with a HEPA filter (Model 17400) for my bedroom because I had contacted bacterial pneumonia last year and wanted to make sure I did not get it again. Next, I purchased this Honeywell 17000 Air Cleaner (with HEPA filter) for use in a smaller bedroom which has been turned into a home office and library. These air cleaners really work! This winter I have not had a cold or flu. Also, this Honeywell Air Cleaner with HEPA filter is whisper soft, and I have had no problems with sleeping, working, reading, watching tv, or listening to music when it is running on the low and medium settings. I leave it on all the time, and I’ve found that it cleans the air best when the door is closed. It has a convenient handle on the top, so I can move it to another room quite easily. Also, it is light enough that I can take it with me in the car if I want to use it away from home. The prefilters last about 3-6 months, (and they can be vacuumed often if you have pets who shed). I change my HEPA filter every year, but you can wait 3 years to do so. These filters are easy to change. The Model 17000 is for a smaller room, and the Model 17400 is for a larger space. Highly recommended for anyone who has pets, who lives with or entertains people who smoke, and who is allergic to dust, molds, or pollens.”
“If you want a unit that actually “filters” the air, buy this. Sure on Medium or High this unit will add background noise, but on low, it is hardly noticeable if it’s not right next to you. We noticed an immediate “crisp feel” to the air and huge reduction in dust in the air. My cough of 3 weeks is gone overnight. Coincidence.. I think not.”
“I purchased the Honeywell 17000 a few years ago but wanted to wait to see how it performed before reviewing. This is the best air filtering system I have ever seen. I am still using the original HEPA and have changed/cleaned the outer filter many times. This product performs above my expectations. I originally bought it to set the smoke smell out of my bedroom. The fire dept told me to call a local professional. He wanted 300 dollars This unit did the job on that and many other things including pet odors. AND…it runs quietly.”
I ordered this because I owned this model for about 10 years and loved it. I noticed from a review on here that they said they didn’t get a pre-filter when they ordered this model. So I ordered one separately. But then my 17000 Honeywell arrived in the mail 4 days after ordering and the pre filter was inside the box. I pulled out filter, stuck on pre filter, plugged in and nothing could’ve been easier!!!!! And it’s so quiet! Actually it’s funny because after about 10 years of having this going 24 hrs a day in my bedroom, when it broke and the room didn’t have the soft purr of the Honeywell, it was too quiet!!! I like a little white noise to drown out other things like a clock ticking and people walking up the stairs, etc! So I am very happy I bought this model again! I considered other more elaborate models, but I kept reading that they are louder and while I like a little white noise, I don’t really want too much. And this is the perfect size for my bedroom. And finally, the air is fresh and I’m not coughing!! Oh, P.S. The one thing I would change on this is that they have a blue light to indicate if you are on high, medium or low. Well, I like it completely dark in my bedroom when I’m sleeping and the light was shining so I had to cover it. But not a huge deal.”
“I have been suffering from allergies and was looking to get a unit for my bedroom. I have 2 large dogs at my condo and they shed a lot. So I figured I would make a purchase on Amazon based on what other reviewers have commented on. I purchased 2 of these, one for each of my bedroom. The unit has 3 settings. I usually place the setting on low before I go to sleep. The noise does not bother me so I have no issues sleeping with it on. I’ve noticed a considerable difference in the amount of dust and pet hair. Best of all, it’s helped with my allergies so I no longer wake up with a cough. I would recommend this unit.
